Book Proposal

Definition: book proposal - a document used to interest and, ultimate sell, an editor on a non-fiction book before the book is actually written. The typical elements include a rationale for the book, a summary, notes on the audience/market for the book, the competition (i.e. books on the same subject already), a chapter outline, the fully-written Introduction, a completed sample chapter, details about the art program (if any), and the author's biography and qualifications for writing the book.
