Just like any other publishing field, newsletter publishing has awards, competitions, scholarships and prestigious medals to win.

The Newsletter Publishers Association offers awards in seven categories: Best Spot-News or Exclusive Single-News Story, Best Investigative Reporting, Best Interpretive or Analytical Reporting, Best Instructional Reporting, Best Financial Advisory Newsletter, Best Single Topic Health Newsletter and, Best Looseleaf Publication. The National Press Club also offers Newsletter Journalism Awards to acknowledge excellence in newsletter journalism. Awards are presented in two categories: the best analytical or interpretive reporting and the best exclusive story. The winner in each category receives a $1,000 cash prize. The Society of National Association Publications (SNAP), have three newsletter categories among their Excel Awards for excellence in Association Publications. Awards are given for General Excellence in Newsletter Publishing, Most Improved, and News Writing.

The Sigma Delta Chi Awards, sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists, include a newsletter journalism award to acknowledge public service in newsletter journalism.
