The Academy Fellowship
A fellowship offered by the Academy of American Poets with a stipend of $20,000.

The Akron Poetry Prize
Each year, The University of Akron Press will offer the Akron Poetry Prize, a competition open to all poets writing in English. The winning poet will receive $1,000 and publication of his or her book. The final selection will be made by a nationally prominent poet.

Annual Love Poem Award
Canadian award for poetry based on the theme of love or anything closely related to love and relationships.

Arkansas Poetry Award
No prize 1997 or 1998, but they plan to reintroduce this award soon.

Associated Writing Programs Awards
Open to all authors writing in English regardless of nationality or residence. Winners in poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction receive a $2,000 cash honorarium from AWP and publication by a participating press.

The Brittingham Prize in Poetry
A $1,000 cash award and publication by the University of Wisconson Press are awarded annually to the two best book-length manuscripts of original poetry submitted in an open competition. There are no restrictions on the kind of poetry or subject matter, although translations are not acceptable.

The Canadian Poetry Chapbook Competition
A prize of $1,000 plus publication for the best English-language poetry manuscript of 15-24 pages.

The Canadian Youth Poetry Competition
Two competitions - one for grades 7-9 and one for grades 10-12. The winning poems receive a cash prize and publication in the National Poetry Contest anthology Vintage, published by Quarry Press.

Hayden Carruth Award
Given to an emerging poet who has published no more than two full-length books of poetry. Winner receives $1,000 and publication.

The FIELD Poetry Prize
The editors of FIELD award the FIELD Poetry Prize annually. The winning manuscript is published by Oberlin College Press, and the author receives an award of $1000. The contest is open to all previously unpublished manuscripts of poetry in English between 50 and 80 pages in length.

Hollis Summers Poetry Prize
Open to unpublished collections of original poems, sponsored by Ohio University Press.

Quentin R. Howard Prize
Presented to the best chapbook manuscript submitted. The winning poet receives $100 and 25 copies of their published book.

Alice James Poetry Awards
This cooperative selects manuscripts for publication through two competitions each year: the Beatrice Hawley Award is open to poets living anywhere in the U.S., and the regional competition is open to poets living in New England and New York only.

The Journal Award in Poetry
The Journal, the literary magazine of Ohio State University, selects one full-length manuscript of poetry each year for publication by the Ohio State University Press. The award carries with it a $1,000 cash prize.

Jane Kenyon Chapbook Award
This award is offered every other year to a poet living in New England. The poet whose chapbook manuscript is chosen, will receive $250.00 and publication.

The Gerald Lampert Memorial Award
The award recognizes the best first book of poetry published by a Canadian in the preceding year. The Award carries a prize of $1,000 and is sponsored by the League of Canadian Poets.

Harold Morton Landon Translation Award
This $1,000 award recognizes a published translation of poetry from any language into English.

The Pat Lowther Memorial Award
The Pat Lowther Memorial Award is given for a book of poetry by a Canadian woman published in the preceding year, and carries a $1,000 prize.

The Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize
Established in 1975, this $10,000 award recognizes the most outstanding book of poetry published in the United States in the previous year.

The National Poetry Contest (CANADA)
A contest open to all Canadians submitting an English language poem no longer than 75 lines.

The Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry
A $1,000 cash award and publication by the University of Wisconson Press are awarded annually to the two best book-length manuscripts of original poetry submitted in an open competition. There are no restrictions on the kind of poetry or subject matter, although translations are not acceptable.

The Raiziss/de Palchi Translation Award
stablished in 1995, this award recognizes outstanding translations into English of modern Italian poetry through a $5,000 book prize and a $20,000 fellowship given in alternating years. The winner of the fellowship also receives a residency at the American Academy in Rome.

Riverside Center for the Arts Grand Open Poetry Contest
Poetry contest with $1,000 first prize, $500 second prize, and $250 third prize; no entry fee.

Sandeen and Sullivan Awards
Recognizes some of the finest writers in contemporary literature. The Creative Writing Program at the University of Notre Dame awards the prize every second year, and the University of Notre Dame Press publishes the winning works.

The SPAWN Poetry Contest
Small cash awards for rhyming and non-rhyming verse.
