Small bookstores are doing well this holiday season, according to a New York Times article by Leslie Kaufman. Polling independent booksellers across the land, Kaufman found that, while there are no breakout gift books ringing the cash registers, independent stores are seeing robust sales. In comparison, Barnes & Noble "bricks and mortar" post-Thanksgiving weekend sales were down slightly over last year, though the sales of their Nook e-reading devices are way up.
