Jane Austen Coming to NYC for Sex, Money, Power

portrait of Jane AustenJane Austen-mania will be taking over the Big Apple the week of October 2 as about 800 members of the Jane Austen Society of North America and their guests gather in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge for the JASNA Annual General Meeting.

The theme of the conference is Sex, Money and Power in Jane Austen's Fiction.

For the first time, a sampling of their Austentatious revelry will be open to the public, beginning with a:

In Search of the Real Jane Austen:
What Does SEX, MONEY, and POWER Have to Do With It?

Presented by Austen expert Annette LeClair, according to JASNA, this session is ideal for those who would like to be introduced to--or get a refresher on--Jane Austen and her work. Those who have read Austen's novels (Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Emma, etc.) or seen them adapted for film or TV or for different times and cultures (Clueless, Bride and Prejudice), will enjoy these insights into her work.
