Yesterday, Monday January 23, 2012, the American Library Association (ALA) presented their Youth Media Awards, which recognized the top books, videos, and audiobooks for children and young adults published in 2011.
Among those honored were Newbery Medal recipient Dead End in Norvelt, written by Jack Gantos (Farrar Straus Giroux); Caldecott Medal recipient A Ball for Daisy, illustrated and written by Chris Raschka (Schwartz & Wade Books/ Random House Children's Books); and 2012 May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture Award winner Michael Morpurgo, author of the novel War Horse (the basis for the popular play and film).
